Editorial Policy & Corrections

Darlington Reviews aims to be fair, factual and readable. We make the basis of comparisons transparent and keep recommendations measured, so readers can judge which option may fit their own needs.

What we cover

We publish local reviews, business recommendations, restaurant guides, shopping information, attractions and things to do. Our editorial aim is to help readers discover independent businesses and compare useful choices, not to make unsupported claims that one option is universally best.

Darlington town and the wider borough

We distinguish Darlington town centre, High Row, Market Square, West Row, the railway stations and central leisure venues from neighbourhoods such as Cockerton, Mowden, Haughton, Haughton-le-Skerne, Harrowgate Hill, Faverdale, Firthmoor, Skerne Park and Albert Hill. Yarm Road and Morton Park are distinct commercial corridors or areas; Faverdale has industrial and business premises.

Blackwell, Hurworth, Middleton St George and Heighington are separate villages in the wider local area. Newton Aycliffe and Great Aycliffe are separate settlements, not Darlington districts. The River Skerne runs through Darlington; the River Tees is a wider regional feature south of town. We name actual locations and avoid suggesting that all surrounding communities are interchangeable with the town centre.

Darlington Railway Station and North Road Railway Station serve different routes and parts of town. North Road is associated with the Bishop Line and railway heritage; Darlington is on the East Coast Main Line. We check current service information before giving specific journey advice. We also distinguish Darlington Borough Council services from County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and other regional bodies.

Evidence and comparisons

Where practical, we use sources close to the subject, including a business’s own information, Darlington Borough Council, venue or event pages, transport operators and relevant public bodies. Business status, opening hours, market arrangements, prices, tenant lists, facilities and event schedules can change. We check current details where feasible and encourage readers to confirm important information directly.

We do not invent first-hand visits, customer feedback, review scores, prices, opening times, event dates or service coverage. We explain comparisons using available facts and make relevant limitations clear. A historic association with railway engineering does not establish the current activity of a particular employer. We use Hopetown Darlington and North Road Station Museum for current visitor references, while treating Head of Steam as a former name where historically relevant.

For schools, healthcare, legal matters, safety or public support, we provide general information only and direct readers to current official guidance where appropriate. We avoid unsupported claims about individuals, crime, health outcomes, neighbourhood demographics or property values.

Recommendations and commercial relationships

A listing or recommendation is not automatically paid for or endorsed. If content is sponsored or has another commercial relationship, we will identify it clearly. Commercial arrangements do not by themselves determine our editorial view.

Corrections and updates

To report a possible error, email [email protected]. Include the page address, the detail in question and a reliable source if possible. We review correction requests and update material errors where appropriate. Minor edits may be made without a separate note; substantial corrections may be identified on the page.

A request does not automatically require removal or amendment. We consider accuracy, relevance, privacy, safety and the public interest. We do not publish private personal information or unverified allegations about individuals.

Scope

Our guides are selective, not a complete directory. Inclusion is not a guarantee of quality, availability or suitability, and absence is not criticism. Confirm important details directly with the organisation concerned before making a decision.
